good workout today, took a while to get over the half on saturday but did my 5x1 mile run tonight. (on call tommorrow) Ran total of 8 miles with 5x1 at 7:00,7:15,7:08,7:19 and 7;08 with less than 3 min recovery between each. Was supposed to go 7;15-30, but had a hard time running that slow! Makes me realize how hard the race felt on saturday compared to the workout today. guess its all a matter of how you are feeling on any given day. Hills thurday, then 22 miles with zeitgeist on saturday!

Yet another awesome workout under your belt Murali! Like you said, you felt under the weather on race day, but it appears you rested adequately and recovered well for a great comeback. It just proves how important rest can be!
Thursday we will concentrate on hill form and strength... "the hills are our friends!" Saturday I will be racing Zeitgeist, but will double back to run with you. This week is full of awesome opportunities for improvement! Remember to schedule in some quality rest time too.
This may seem strange Murali, but I believe the biggest gains come from psychological training. I'm NOT saying you lack this, quite the contrary (you show characteristics of an abundance of mental toughness through your daily living), however I am suggesting that anyone at any level in their running career will benefit from practicing daily psychological training. This is the time to do it. Visualize yourself running your race... the perfect marathon. Picture yourself in the moment running smooth, relaxed, rhythmically at every mile; effortlessly achieving pace goals; fearlessly executing your race strategies. Visualize yourself with unwavering confidence, a sturdy conviction that this race was meant for you. Visualize yourself annihilating challenges, the anticipated and the unexpected. Visualize yourself with passion... you want this more than you have ever wanted it before. Visualize yourself letting go of ALL negativity, letting go of all pressures (self induced and by others), letting go of all anxieties. Imagine crossing the finish line meeting your goal... not "we'll see", but YOU REALLY DO SEE it in your mind....you SEE it exactly how you want it to be. You imagine what it feels like, smells like, tastes like, what it looks like to accomplish your goal. Visualize first thing in the morning and the last thing before you fall asleep. Do this every day, Murali, until the day you step foot on the starting line. Then visualize yourself at Boston. You may have some days where you just don't feel like training your mind (it can be exhausting), but make yourself do it...just for 3 minutes. It will make a huge difference Murali, it's worth the six to twelve minutes a day. You may consider making a CD of your thoughts or have someone make a CD specifically for you, so that you can fully relax while you visualize. Always look at the positive, have fun with it, and before you know it...you'll see the inner tiger release!
See ya Thursday!
